Back in October 2019, the Battery Passport project kicked off, which meant it was time to actual prove a number of theories we have made. The idea was to combine some existing technologies to create a solution that would fulfil a gap in the market in helping transition vehicle batteries into a second-life market, providing both the right batteries needed for the different energy storage applications but securing the residual value of the batteries.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic struck during the project, we successful produced and deployed our proof of concept solution onto two Electra vehicles. The plan now is to leave the Battery Passport solution on those vehicles collecting data and building up their actual passports, so that eventually those passports can be used to help secure best value for the vehicle battery when it goes into the second-life market.

Although we have a working solution this isn’t the service completed, we have a number of further enhancements planned and look forward to sharing our journey.

CodeSmith Technology and partners are grateful to the Niche Vehicle Network for recognising the potential of the Battery Passport solution and the support provided during the project.
